Our Story

We are two best friends who have seen the large disconnect around the topic of sexual violence in the South Asian community. With this, we founded Dialogues of Desi Women to advocate for Desi women who have been through any level of sexual misconduct. Being best friends, we have always been able to talk to each other about our emotions and trauma, but never felt that comfort with opening up to our community. We wanted to create a safe space for our community to have the important conversations surrounding this topic.

Dialogues of Desi Women is a platform advocating for Desi women against gender based violence. The platform combats the stigma that comes with domestic violence in the South Asian community, by sparking conversation and driving change through lifting the voices of Desi women. Our platform offers survivor stories, resources, and advocacy and is available on Instagram, Facebook, and Spotify. We hope that these stories, resources, and perspectives bring conversation with the new generation of South Asians in our community.

“Dialogues of Desi women are time and time again hushed and overlooked by the Desi community and society as a whole. As a Desi woman myself, I want to fight against this mentality and culture to create a safer space for my community and women as a whole.”

“I joined DDW to help shed light and bring awareness to gender-based violence, especially in the South Asian community. As a young South Asian woman, I want to shed light on this amazing community of young women and empower the young women within this community!”
